A blood clot, a clump of blood in a gelatinous and solid state, often forms in veins located deep inside the body. This condition is called Deep Vein Thrombosis (DVT). These clots usually develop in your lower leg or thigh. When these clots travel to other organs, like the heart or lungs, serious complications can arise. It is important to seek immediate treatment for DVT after experiencing any symptoms.
Not all people with DVT experience noticeable symptoms like the swelling in the ankles, feet, or legs even after identifying cramping pain that begins in the calf.
Be aware DVT symptoms can also arise with (1) pain in the ankle and foot; (2) warmth in affected areas; and (3) skin turning red or pale in the affected area.
